From the series: Maid in Malaysia


Maid in Malaysia is a photographic series of tableaux vivants,  portraits of maids in Malaysia, performing their duties while embodying different cultural icons such as Florence Nightingale, Jeannie, Mary Poppins, Madonna, Supergirl, Virgin Mary, Lara Croft, etc. The multidisciplinary work addresses exhibitions theme of globalization, in this case of servitude, as these roles demonstrate the expectations and perceptions of Philippine and Indonesian maids, and their more affluent employers whose domestic needs they serve.

Maid in Malaysia was commissioned by the 2008 Taipei Biennial.
