From the series: Carnival na Lona no Brasil, (Carnival on Canvas in Brazil)
This image from Rio de Janeiro's downtown street carnival is part of "Carnival on Canvas," an ongoing photographic essay, begun, in 1987, which records three diverse elements of Rio de Janeiro's street carnival. It reflects the social and political tone of the carnival of this district. The photographer employs a weathered canvas to create an instant studio background for all of the images.
