DAI NAKAMURA: Biography
Japanese, b. 1970, Hokkaido, Japan
Rhode Island School of Design, (RISD), Providence, RI

Dai Nakamura was born in 1970 in Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s four main islands. A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, (RISD) in Providence, RI, he is now based in both New York and Japan. His photography explores a wide range of human experience—a working class New England community, Japanese family relations and social customs, landscape and urban development, a non-cliche essay about cherry blossoms—reflecting Japanese aesthetics and interaction with nature. Nakamura is a master photographic printer, (early in his career a printer for renowned photographic masters). He has collaborated in the commercial industry with his fine art photography and runs his own photographic agency in Yokohama. His work has been in solo and group exhibitions in the U.S., and Japan, and is in the permanent collections of The Danforth Museum of Art, Fidelity Corporation, The Worcester Museum of Art, in Massachusetts, USA, and the Shionoe Museum, Shionoe, Japan, among others.
